Building a more resilient Los Angeles: BMO partners with LISC LA

May 8, 2025 | Giving and sponsorships

Los Angeles faces a critical need for affordable housing and economic opportunity, particularly in underserved communities. BMO is stepping up to address these challenges with a $575,000 grant to Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) LA, a long-standing partner committed to creating lasting change. This investment will fuel two impactful initiatives:

  • Empowering Community-Led Housing Solutions: Recognizing the power of local organizations, our grant will help LISC LA equip faith-based groups, community land trusts, and emerging developers with the resources and expertise to create quality affordable housing. This includes development coaching, predevelopment grants, and strategic planning support. Imagine a partnership where a community development corporation focused on supporting transition-age youth teams up with a faith-based organization with underutilized land. With LISC LA’s guidance, this collaboration could result in stable housing that fosters a sense of belonging for vulnerable young people. This is just one example of how BMO’s investment will help catalyze innovative housing solutions.
  • Fueling the Growth of Local Small Businesses: The grant will also empower Los Angeles County based microbusinesses and startups in South LA, including the Crenshaw Corridor, Goodyear Tract, and Inglewood – areas where we have already invested in revitalization efforts. This initiative will empower entrepreneurs and strengthen the local economy, while building community engagement. With a focus on businesses serving low- and moderate-income communities, this program will help ensure that economic growth is inclusive and benefits everyone.

“By partnering with LISC LA, we’re investing in the future of Los Angeles. These programs align with our commitment to Boldly Grow the Good by fostering inclusive economic opportunities and creating a more resilient city.”
