BMO ranks #1 in global learning and development awards

June 16, 2023 | Recognition

BMO has topped the rankings of the Association for Talent Development’s 2023 ATD BEST Awards – one of the most prestigious global awards for organizational learning and development. This is the seventh time BMO has been recognized as an ATD BEST winner, and the first time we have achieved the number-one position.

“ATD sets the standard for organizational learning and development. To be recognized as number one in the world proves the effectiveness of BMO’s strategy, the capability of our teams, and the strength of our commitment to helping employees build their skillsets and advance their careers. It’s a huge honour.”

U.S. CHRO and Head, Talent Reskilling & Acceleration

Established in 2003, the ATD BEST Awards recognize organizations that use talent development as a strategic business tool to drive results. Award winners must demonstrate excellence in several categories, including integration of talent development into organizational strategy and corporate culture, learning as a driver of individual and organizational performance, and investment into talent development and performance initiatives.

BMO was one of only two Canadian companies on the list of 2023 winners, which includes global leaders in pharmaceuticals, technology, energy and insurance.

“These organizations are driving impact and solving business challenges through talent development practices, and they are doing it in innovative ways. Senior leaders in these organizations understand the critical strategic role of learning, and they are committed to investing in the growth and development of their people.”

– Tony Bingham
ATD president and chief executive officer

BMO’s learning and development strategy is essential to our Ambition 2025 goal of building a digitally enabled, future-ready bank. Our holistic, digital-first approach encompasses personalized learning, on-the-job experiences, and programs that support personal connections, and we continue to develop new ways to empower BMO colleagues in their career journeys. On average, each full-time employee at BMO devoted more than 40 hours to learning and development in 2022.
