Kicking off International Women’s Day with the Chicago Bulls
To celebrate International Women’s Day, BMO Harris Bank and the Chicago Bulls invited student athletes from Trinity High School’s girls basketball team in River Forest, Illinois and the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana to a special event featuring women who lead in sports.
Held at the United Center, the event featured a panel discussion with former WNBA player Cappie Pondexter, Chicago Sky Guard Diamond DeShields and moderator Leila Rahimi of NBC SportsNet Chicago. Their conversation focused on building the next generation of strong women athletes.
The panelists discussed the various ways sports teach young women skills beyond teamwork and dedication. They shared stories from their personal journeys to where they are now, emphasizing how each exercise, drill, practice and game prepared them for a successful future on – and off – the court.
After hearing from the panelists, the young women attendees were able to ask questions, take photos with their role models and watch the Bulls take on the Dallas Mavericks.
The event was spearheaded by the BMO Alliance for Women, an Enterprise Resource Group that advocates for the inclusion, connection, development, advancement and support of women.
