Juxtaposition Arts and BMO Harris Bank Create Mural of Hope & Unity
Over the past several months, BMO partnered with local not for profits to create murals out of the plywood that was placed outside BMO Harris Bank branches damaged during the protests and acts of activism that took place across the country after the death of George Floyd.
These murals were designed to bring the message of hope and unity and to show that we stand against racial inequality and injustice. Earlier this week, BMO teamed up with Juxtaposition Arts (JXTA) to unveil the final mural of the series at BMO’s Lake Street branch in Minneapolis. This mural emphasizes that human lives and the structural changes necessary to move forward are more important than damaged property. Because art is a powerful form of advocacy.
The JXTA mural team is made up of alumni, current apprentices and teaching artists. Creating this project were apprentices Bereket Weddall, Essence Enwere and Elijah Buchanan; alum Justice Jones and teaching artist Alex Smith.
The completed mural is on display outside the Lake Street branch for as long as weather permits and will find a special home once it leaves the branch exterior.
BMO is committed to zero barriers to inclusion and strives for a more inclusive society for our customers and the communities that we live in.
