BMO employees help London students achieve their career potential

In line with our purpose to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life, BMO hosted a formal work experience program in London, England last month in partnership with the Brokerage, a charity that helps Londoners from state schools access experiences of work, employability skills and jobs in financial, professional and related services.

Nine A-Level students (16-17 years old) from four area schools participated in the week-long program, which included panel discussions, workshops and job shadowing.  By the end of the week, the students left BMO with knowledge gained in a range of areas including workplace etiquette and interview techniques, as well as careers available in financial services and possible apprenticeship opportunities with BMO.

BMO has worked with Brokerage on innovative student outreach programs since October 2017. The partnership so far has reached 164 students from 15 schools with insight days, workshops and work experience programs. These programs continue to demonstrate BMO’s commitment to the local community as we aim to boost social mobility and support diverse, local talent who do not have the connections or access to the business world in the UK.

When asked to share the best thing about the experience, one student remarked, “The aspect which I enjoyed the most was the job shadowing experience I received, it really helped me gain an insight and understanding of roles in sales & trading and investment banking.”
