BMO breaks ground in Chicago

December 20, 2019 | Growth

BMO has a long history of supporting economic development in the city of Chicago – a history that began when we first provided financing in the 1860s. Following the establishment of Harris Bank in 1882, we truly made our mark on the city when bank leaders founded the Chicago Community Trust. Established in 1915, the Chicago Community Trust is still one the largest and most effective community foundations, dedicated to improving the region through strategic grant making, civic engagement and philanthropy.

On December 20, BMO began a new chapter, joining Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to break ground on a new 600-ft., 50-story office tower that will build on our already rich Chicago history.

“From our first days in Chicago in the 1860s, we’ve always been proud of our role contributing to boldly growing the good in our great city,” said Dave Casper, U.S. CEO, BMO Financial Group.  “We chose to build a new office tower because we are committed to playing our part in contributing to the economic development of Chicago and because, just two years after celebrating our bicentennial, we’re looking forward to our next 200 years in Chicago.”

Planned for completion in 2022, the building will feature vibrant office spaces and flexible conference rooms designed to allow our employees to work more collaboratively in open, integrated environments. BMO Tower will also be home to a modern, more open flagship branch, enabled with innovative technology built around the needs and desires of our customers.

“This transformational new office space will be designed to reflect the future of BMO and will be leveraged as a catalyst for efficiency, innovation and continued growth,” said Dan Cooke, Vice-President, Corporate Real Estate, BMO Financial Group. “In addition to providing a best in class experience for our customers and employees, we will also ensure that BMO stands out as an employer of choice that offers modern, cutting edge work spaces to attract top talent.”

We’re proud to do our part in boldly growing the good for the communities that we serve and look forward to continuing our legacy in Chicago.
